Stellantis, the automaker which owns Fiat, has partnered with Kiri Technologies to offer cryptocurrency rewards for driving. Europeans who drive the all-electric Fiat 500 will earn e.Coins which can be spent in the Kiri Marketplace.
According to Fiat, users who drive 10,000 KM annually can expect to earn approximately £150/year. Drivers can earn benefits like Amazon, Netflix, and Spotify or spend their e.Coins in the Kiri Marketplace on "green" items.
This initiative is designed to encourage eco-friendly driving and reduce carbon emissions. As of May 2022, £635,000 worth of Kiri rewards have been generated and there are 7300 active drivers in the program.
Stellantis, is also expanding the program to the Jeep brand for the entire 4xe line-up. In the second half of 2022, the plug-in hybrid versions of the Wrangler, Renegade, Compass and Grand Cherokee will earn Kiri Coins for charging and driving.
This probably won't convince to buy a Fiat 500, but it's a new opportunity in the drive to earn crypto space. It will be interesting to see how this develops and if other automotive brands follow.
